Sara Pilot, Sharmila Tagore in Congress LS list

The Congress will be fielding petroleum minister Veerappa Moily’s son Harsha from his constituency Chikkaballapur in Karnataka, said a highly-placed source in the party.

The source added to counter Aam Aadmi Party’s Yogender Yadav, the Congress is considering to field Sachin Pilot’s wife - Sara (daughter of union minsiter Farooq Abdullah) - from Gurgaon. Another probable candidate from the Congress for this seat might be Sharmila Tagore, wife of late Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan. From the BJP, it would be former union minister and three-time MP Rao Inderjit Singh, who had broken away from the Congress accusing Hooda regime of Robert Vadra land scams, for Gurgaon. He is the son of former Haryana chief minister Birender Singh. Gurgaon would be an interesting fight as both Inderjit and AAP’s Yogender Yadav are considered to have strong appeal among the Yadav vote bank.

The BJP is all set to announce its first list of Lok Sabha candidates on 27 February when the party’s top leadership will discuss the possible candidates at a meeting of the central election committee in Delhi. First the party will announce high profile names and rest in the subsequent meetings, said a source. Ambala is another interesting case. The BJP has zeroed in on former Ambala MP Ratan Lal Kataria who will be contesting from this seat for Lok Sabha polls. Kumari Selja of the Congress held that seat before moving to Rajya Sabha recently. There is strong anti-incumbency in Ambala and it is understood that that was the reason why Selja opted out. AAP has not opened it’s cards on this seat yet. While the INLD is still in a wait-and-watch mode and probably will announce it’s candidates when the Congress has officially announced theirs.

BJP’s Captain Abhimanyu, whose name has been doing the rounds for Faridabad and Rohtak is likely to be fielded from Sonepat. Ram Chandra Bainda and Krishnpal Gujjar are strong contenders in Faridabad- a stronghold of BJP, and Rohtak being a straight fight with chief minister’s son Deepender Hooda. Also with Abhimanyu spending more time in UP due to his engagement as co-in charge there, he is likely to be given Sonepat since the other probables Pradeep Sangwan  and Ramesh Kaushik are not being seen as strong candidates by the party, said a source.

The BJP will contest eight LS seats in Haryana, giving two seats to former CM Bhajan Lal’s son Kuldeep Bishnoi’s party Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC). Bishnoi is sitting MP from Hisar. But he has been negotiating hard for Karnal also for his party as Karnal has a sizeable non-Jat vote bank - HJC’s stronghold. But Karnal has also been a bone of contention between BJP and HJC, as BJP state president Ram Bilas Sharma himself wants to contest from Karnal.
