Ramdev abuses, politicians get even

Upset with the derogatory references against Parliamentarians made by controversial yoga guru Ramdev, the Samajwadi Party moved a privilege motion against him in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday for calling members of Parliament ‘dacoits, murderers, illiterates, corrupt and characterless’.

Hinting indirectly at Ramdev, the party leader Shailendra Kumar asserted that such statements made ‘openly at public platforms’ amounted to breach of privilege of Parliament and demanded action against the ‘culprits’.

‘MPs were being openly bad-mouthed by these persons, who were calling elected representatives a bunch of thieves, thugs, rapists and murderers,’ added Kumar.

Another party leader Kamal Farooqi told Millennium Post, ‘It is true that Shailendra Kumar has filed a  privilege motion against Ramdev in Parliament. We all completely agree with Shailendra on this issue. The dignity of Parliament is being eroded through such statements. Baba Ramdev’s statements should be seen as an attack on the entire Parliament.’

After Team Anna chose not to align with him, Ramdev has now landed himself into another controversy with these comments. He made these comments while talking to the media on Tuesday at the launch of a campaign against corruption in Chhattisgarh’s Durg. It was here that he mentioned that there were good people among the Parliamentarians and he respected them, but also criticised the others.
