Cong snubs Modi for Indira comment

The controversial Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has ignited yet another row, after he made a comment alleging that former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was not secular.

The Congress has slammed Modi strongly for making this statement. The party’s spokesperson Rashid Alvi told Millennium Post, ‘It is very unfortunate that some one is making such derogatory remarks against Indira Gandhiji, a person who commanded respect all over the world. She was not only the Prime Minister of India, but was respected by everyone all over the world. In fact, she had sacrificed her own life for the country and now it is very sad that some one is making such derogatory remarks against her.’

While addressing an awards function in Mumbai, Modi had said, ‘Indira Gandhi had committed a big sin. I will just speak of one, as she committed many of them. Known for her secular inclination, when she was contesting polls in the northeast, the Congress party mentioned in their manifesto that if they win then they will rule according to the Bible. Can you imagine if such is the stance while you are running the country, then separatist forces would be in such great advantage; back then no one questioned her secularism though.’
