CAG report on Airport Metro to heat up Budget session

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) is geared up to set the tone for the upcoming budget session starting from 21 February, with sources in the organisation confirming that a report on Airport Express Metro line’s construction will be tabled this time.

This report is much-awaited as it unravels the indictment of Reliance Infrastructure Limited for siphoning money. This finds mention in the draft report sent by the CAG on Airport Metro Express Line sent to the ministry of urban development.

After the 2G scam and Coalgate expose which rocked the last session, this parliament session is expected to be stormy with these CAG reports giving ample ammunition to the Opposition to sharpen it’s attack on the ruling Congress-led UPA government. Sources in the CAG confirmed the reports which are expected to be tabled in the upcoming budget session include the controversial issue of the AugustaWestland helicopter deal. The CAG’s draft report on the controversial Rs 3,546 crore 12 VVIP chopper deal is ready and has been sent across to the defense ministry.

‘The CAG has already sent across its report regarding the deal in the draft report to the defense ministry. We are now awaiting for the ministry to respond with details. It now depends on them how much time they take to send us the required information. When that is done, even this report will also be tabled in the current parliament session,’ said the source.

Apart from these the parliament will also see CAG reports on farm-loan waiver, implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), and National Disaster Management Authority being tabled. The CAG will also be giving inputs to Report 1, on budget related to the government’s central expenditure.
