Zero tolerance to eve-teasers, people misbehaving with women, says Bassi

Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi on Friday told a group of Parliamentarians that there is zero tolerance for eve-teasers and people misbehaving with women and instructions have been given to police to attend immediately to any such complainant and suo-motu action.

Giving a presentation at a meeting of the consultative committee of MPs attached to the Home Ministry, Bassi briefed on various steps taken by the Delhi Police for anti-human trafficking and safety and security of women.

The Delhi Police has taken various initiatives to provide safety to women such as launching of the Mobile App ‘Himmat’, setting up of women help desks 24x7 in all police stations.

The women help desks attend to women complainants and suo-motu action is being taken by Beat Officer against eve-teasers and people misbehaving with women in their areas and a zero tolerance policy is being adopted in this regard, Bassi told the MPs.

Instructions have been issued to BPOs and reviewed from time to time to ensure that women employees are not made to travel alone with the cab driver and a duly verified security guard, he told the Parliamentarians.

The meeting was chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and attended by his deputies — Kiren Rijiju and Haribhai Chaudhary — and top officials of the Home Ministry.

Eights MPs from Lok Sabha and seven MPs from Rajya Sabha were present in the meeting.
