Youth’s body found in Behala

Mystery shrouds the death of a young man whose body was recovered on a road in Behala on 

Friday morning.

Police said that there were many injury marks on his body. As per the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the youth might have been hacked to death.

They are yet to ascertain the exact reason behind the death of the victim. Some local people on Friday morning spotted the youth who had been lying on the side of the road and informed the matter to the police.

After being informed by local residents the police reached the spot and sent him to a hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

Police suspect that people might have lynched him on suspicion of being a thief as money, gold chain and other valuable items were recovered from his possession. As some valuables were missing from a nearby temple, the people thought that the accused might have stolen valuables from the temple and beaten up the victim.

Police have recovered a piece of cloth from the possession of the victim. Police said that the local 

residents spotted the body on Santrapara road.

Police are probing whether the victim was involved in the incident of theft. Police said that there were two temples in the Senhati Santrapara area where theft had taken place on Thursday night.

Police have started interrogating some local people in the incident. The incident had triggered tension in the area.

It may be mentioned that in some recent incidents people have been lynched to by mobs on mere suspicion of being thief. The investigating officers are not, however, sure that the accused had stolen the valuables from the temples.

They are also investigating if there was any other motive behind the incident. Police are looking into all possible angles.
