Youth succumbs to injuries, days after attack, ‘baton charge’

A youth on Saturday succumbed to injuries days after he was attacked by locals and allegedly lathi-charged by police in <g data-gr-id="18">Samaypur</g> Badli area, with his family demanding the arrest of the guilty policemen.

21-year-old Amit was injured in a fight with locals at Raja Vihar slum in <g data-gr-id="14">Samaypur</g> <g data-gr-id="15">Badli</g> on July 21 night.

The locals had beaten him with sticks, a friend said, adding that when he interfered, they beat him also. Police later arrived and lathi-charged them, resulting in grievous injuries to both of them, he said. Amit was admitted to Ambedkar hospital from where he was shifted to Saroj hospital in Rohini where he died on Saturday, a police officer said.

“Amit died due to injuries he sustained during the fight,” the officer said, denying his family and the friend’s charges.
