Youth shot dead in Purulia

A youth was shot dead in broad daylight at Adra of Purulia district. The incident happened on Friday morning. Locals informed the police that Pintu Verma, a 30-year-old youth was pumped bullets into by some miscreants and they managed to flee the spot.

Police said Pintu was standing in front of Adra Girls high school, probably waiting for a friend who is the student of that school. Some bike-borne miscreants armed with country-made pistols appeared there and shot him from point blank range.

The police interrogated some local shop keepers who said that the miscreants had fled towards the main road. A heavy downpour almost inundated the area when the incident happened. The police could not chase the gunmen due to the heavy rainfall.

Pintu’s body was lying on the road as police came to recover it for autopsy. “We have started an investigation. A murder case has been initiated. The killers may have fled in neighbourhood state,” an investigating officer said.

The prima facie has revealed that Pintu had an old rivalry with some persons which might have caused the attack. “Some persons had a row with Pintu over his relationship with a girl. They had threatened to kill him if he continued to meet that girl. They may be involved in this case,” the investigating officer added.
