Youth shot at over Dispute in Narkeldanga

A youth was shot at following a scuffle over a dispute on ownership of a flat on North Road at Narkeldanga here on Sunday morning.

Police said the victim Kamaruddin received bullet injuries on his right leg. He is undergoing treatment at NRS Medical College and Hospital.

On Sunday morning people, who were about to get flats in the apartment, gathered for a discussion with the real estate agent. The discussion was all about giving possession of the flats.

Police came to know after preliminary inquiry that one Takla Alam, who was allegedly involved in various antisocial activities, was well known to the real estate agent. He along with his associates including Saddam, Guddu and Arshad went to attend the discussion.

Local people alleged that Alam has forcefully taken possession of a flat. An altercation broke out when Kamaruddin had protested against the illegal possession.

Alam and his associates alleged pushed back Kamaruddin and asked him to leave the place.

Trouble broke out when the victim had refused to leave the spot and continued protesting against various activities of Alam.

Kamaruddin told the police that Alam’s associate Guddu attacked him with a razor blade and he received injuries on his head. He fell on the road after he was attacked. Kamaruddin fought back when the accused and his aides threatened him with dire consequences. Local people too supported him.

Finding the situation was going against them, Alam and his men attempted to flee. But before fleeing, Saddam opened fire at Kamaruddin. He received bullet injuries on his right leg.

Neighbours immediately took Kamaruddin to NRS Medical College and Hospital. Sumit Goaldar, a local resident, said: “We were astonished knowing that someone shot at a youth in broad day light.”

A police officer said an investigation had been initiated in this connection. Raids were on in search of the accused. But the police are yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident.
