Tension ran high in Tangra under Entally police station following clashes between two groups of criminals on Thursday morning. A youth, Sheikh Aslam was shot at by three criminals. He was taken to Nilratan Sarkar Medical College and hospital and later taken to a private nursing home.

A large contingent of police led by Debasmita Das, deputy Commissioner of police Eastern Suburban division went to the spot and brought the  situation under control. Local people set fire to a motor cycle which the miscreants left while fleeing. They put up a road block and did not allow the police to enter the area.

Local people alleged that despite complaints, the police did not take steps to curb criminal activities in the area. Local people said three criminals belonging to the group of Miazul came to the area in the morning and started bombing to scare the residents.

Around five youth, all outsiders, were found loitering in the area. Later, four youth came on two motor cycles and surrounded Aslam near his residence. They fired from a point blank range. He fell on the ground.

Attracted by his cries for help, local people chased the miscreants. Two left the motorcycles and escaped, while the other two fled on their bikes. He was taken to a nursing home where he
was admitted. Local people set the bike on fire.

Local people alleged that for quite some time there had been clashes between the groups of Sheikh Masad and Iqbal, promoters of a building and Miazul over the sale of a flat. Local people alleged that the flats had been sold four times by the builders for whom Aslam used to work.

The residents said they had seen Bapi, Saheb, Bobby and Arjun who were close to the builders in the area on Thursday morning. Later, Kelo Bapi, a henchman of Miajul appeared on the scene. Local people alleged that the outsiders had created trouble in the area.

The police have started investigation. No one has been arrested in this connection. A police picket has been posted to maintain peace.
