Youth shot at in Mathpara

Miscreants shot at a youth at Mathpara, in Katwa Municipality area on Wednesday morning. Police said, Pawan Sheikh, a 21-year-old person received bullet injuries. He was sent to a private hospital.

The investigators learnt that Pawan Sheikh is not a local resident. He came to his uncle’s place a few days ago. The assailants were probably known to him. “They shot him from close range. They were hiding behind a tree. Sheikh was shot when he was crossing the road,” said an investigating officer.

“The assailants escaped towards Katwa town by car. We brought sniffer dogs in the spot. We got some information about the assailants. But it cannot be divulged now,” said the officer.

Further police investigation revealed that Sheikh is a real estate developer. But recently, he was involved in a tiff with some of his business rivals. “The condition of the victim is critical. Doctors did not provide us the permission to interrogate him. So we’ll wait till his discharge,” the officer said.

Sheikh has a huge loan to repay to the some of his businessmen friends. But he was dodging them to pay the cash back. “We have recovered a 9mm gun and a crude bomb from the place which was close to the spot of murder,” an investigating officer added.

It should be recalled that bike-borne miscreants shot a trader to death in a broad daylight at Garapota-Kandipur in Katwa, a few weeks ago.
