Tension ran high at Tiljala late Wednesday after some miscreants shot at a local youth when he was returning to his house along with his elder brother. The youth, however, escaped an injury as he fell on the ground when the miscreants shot at him.

Police have arrested three persons and recovered three firearms and 10 rounds of cartridges from their possession. According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that an old rivalry between two groups might have led to the incident. When two local youth Amit Roy and his younger brother Rajesh Roy were on their way back home, a gang of miscreants blocked their way.

A quarrel broke out between the two brothers and the accused which soon led to a scuffle between the two groups. Within a few minutes, one of the accused took out a gun and shot at Rajesh but he escaped an injury as he had fallen on the ground. The sound of gunshot attracted the attention of the local residents who rushed to the spot for their rescue. The miscreants tried to flee the spot. Some police personnel in plain clothes chased them and managed the catch hold of the three miscreants from near Lal Math area on Sridhar Roy road.

Police suspect that accused gathered at the spot to take a revenge on the two as there was a rivalry between the two brothers and the accused. Police came to know in the interrogation that the victims had engaged in a quarrel with some other local youth during Puja this year over immersion of idols. Amit Roy had an altercation with another youth from the local area who has been identified as Rabi Das.

The victims have alleged that Irfan Ali, Ansar Ali, Rabi, Kartik and Niaz had attacked them Wednesday night. Police have arrested Niaz, Rabi and Irfan Ali in this connection while some others are currently absconding. Police are conducting raid to nab the culprits.
