Youth reeling from death of his newborn enters into quarrel with locals, lynched

A 26-year-old youth was lynched by some local youth for protesting against them for using slangs at him related to the death of his recently deceased newborn. It was learnt that the victim was depressed after the death of his newborn girl child. The incident took place at Jibantala in South 24 Parganas late Tuesday night.

Police said the victim Babulal was a local resident. He was depressed after his newborn girl child died on Monday. He was disheartened as no one had extended their help to him even after his daughter’s death.

The victim had passed some comments at the local people in this connection and it led to the trouble. He was beaten up by some local youth. Later, some more people joined the youth and continued beating him till he fell on the ground.

He became senseless within a few minutes. The accused dragged him up to his courtyard and left him there to die. The victim’s family members later found Babulal lying in a pool of blood in the courtyard. They took him to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.

The incident led to tension in the area. The victim’s sister lodged a complaint with the police. The police initiated a probe in this connection and sent the body for an autopsy. The accused youth had managed to flee the village. Police initiated a search for them but yet to arrest anyone in this connection.

Police suspect that the accused had some old rivalry with the victim and it led to the crime. After speaking to some local people it seemed that they were in search of a moment when they could attack Babulal and they lynched him on Tuesday night, a police officer said adding that the police also spoke to the victim’s family members and they told them the names of some youth with whom Babulal had a rivalry.
