Youth held for raping minor girl in Lake Town

A youth was arrested on Sunday morning on alleged charges of raping a minor girl at Lake Town.

Police said the accused Rajkumar Das is a resident of Nehru Colony and he was arrested based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s parents at the Lake Town police station late Saturday night.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was all alone in his house on Saturday afternoon.

He found the girl playing outside his house. He assured her of giving some good food to eat and asked her to come inside his house.

Police came to know after speaking to the victim that Rajkumar spoke to the girl for a few minutes and tied her hands when she repeatedly asked him to give her the food as assured by him.

He had closed all the doors and windows of the house. As a result local people couldn’t hear the victim’s cries for help when he assaulted her sexually. Her parents were worried when they 

found the girl missing. They initiated a search and went to houses of some of his neighbours.

They even knocked on main door of the accused’s house, but there was no response from inside. Thus, the victim’s parents had left the place considering that there was no one inside.

Later, Rajkumar allowed the girl to return home when everyone had left the place to search for her somewhere else. He had threatened him with dire consequences if she revealed it to anyone.

The girl didn’t reveal anything to her parents after going back home. Being traumatised she told her parents that she went to play with some of her friends. But she fell ill on Saturday evening and revealed the truth to her parents at night.

It led to tension in the area as local people went to ransack the house of the accused.

The police reached the spot immediately after receiving the information that the law and order situation would take a worse turn in the area and arrested the accused from his residence.
