Youth facing molestation charges shot at outside Dwarka court

A 20-year-old man facing a case of molestation was shot at by two motorcycle-borne assailants outside Dwarka court on Wednesday afternoon. According to the police, the assailants were led by the brother of the girl whom Ankit Dagar, the injured, had allegedly molested and was facing trial for the same. The police also revealed that after the girl marriage, Dagar kept harassing her following which she slapped charges of molestation.

Police said that the incident took place around 12:30 pm opposite gate number 3 of the Dwarka court after the hearing got over. Post hearing, when Dagar went to drink juice from a vendor nearby, two bike-borne men came and fired at him. The bullet pierced Dagar’s chest and hit the juice vendor. He was hit in the lower chest area while the juice vendor Arif was hit in the arm. Police said Dagar’s condition was stable.

“A security guard at the gate quickly took him in the QRT van to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. Meanwhile, the PCR van took Arif to the same hospital. Ankit was conscious while he was being taken to the hospital. He described the men who fired at him,” said an officer.

Yashvir Dagar, Ankit’s father said, “After the hearing got over, I and my son had a minor altercation with the girl’s (the complainant) family. It lasted a few minutes. While I was still inside the court complex, Ankit had gone out to eat. I kept calling him to come back. Within a few minutes, I saw him running towards gate number 3 of the court where he collapsed.”

“The problem started when the girl filed a complaint against Ankit. Residents of Malikpur village, both Ankit and the girl were in a relationship. After the girl married another man, she shifted to Kheda Gaon, but Ankit kept harassing her,” said a source close to the investigation. “We have identified the suspects. We have gathered evidences and will make arrests soon,” said RA Sanjeev, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West).
