Youth detained for harassing former Calcutta HC justice

A police officer said that former Justice Asim Kumar Roy lodged a complaint with the apolice and subsequently a youth was detained.

Police said that on Sunday morning, when the former judge was coming out of his house, he found several trucks parked in front of his house. All the trucks were laden with building materials.

The parking of the trucks was causing inconvenience to many other residents in the area and it had become a constant problem since several days.

As it was quite difficult for the residents to pass move freely in the area because the trucks had been parked haphazadly, Roy asked the drivers to clear their trucks from the area. Some of the truck drivers eventually complied and moved their vehicles.

However, the situation turned serious when two youth came to the house of the former judge on a motorbike and started abusing him. They even threatened the security guard at Roy’s house. The two then fled the place.

Former Justice Roy contacted the Bidhannagar Commissionerate and informed the police about the matter in detail. The Commissionerate asked the New Town police station to take necessary action.

Policemen from the New Town station went to Roy’s house and noted down the description of the youths. Later, police detained a local youth Ansar Mollah in this connection. The motorbike in which the duo had come to Roy’s house was also seized.

Preliminary investigation revealed that both the accused youth were involved with the business of supplying building materials.
