Youth Congress workers stage protest outside VK Singh’s house

Youth Congress workers on Monday staged a protest outside Union Minister VK Singh’s residence in Ghaziabad over his controversial ‘dog’ remarks on the Dalit burning incident.

The Youth Congress unit of Western Utter Pradesh (WUP) hurled eggs and tomatoes at the house of the Minister of State for External Affairs.

The protest was led by Congress MLC Naseeb Pathan and WUP Youth Congress president Amantullah, who also sought the minister’s resignation. Singh courted controversy with his statement that the Centre could not be blamed if somebody threw a stone at a dog in connection with the Faridabad Dalit burning incident, in which two children were killed.

Pathan alleged that he, along with his party workers, were lathicharged by the police at the protest site.

Ashok Shisodia, SHO of the Kavi Nagar police station, however, maintained that the forces had to resume to mild lathicharge as protesters were crashing into police barricades.

Two protesters, Danish Saifi and Nooruddin, were arrested under Sections 332 and 353 of the IPC for creating hindrance in police working, he said.

Many political parties, including the Dalit Sena and Kautliya Sena, have registered their protest against the minister but nothing untoward was reported, police said.

“We had to disperse the protesters as they were getting violent,” they said.
