Youth caught in tussle between two groups dies

Gurudas Biswas, a youth who was badly injured during a clash that broke out between two groups over organising a picnic at Adayitapath area in Santipur died in a hospital early Saturday morning.

Police said that the violence erupted on Friday afternoon when two groups engaged in a brawl while taking part in a picnic. The members of the groups who were in inebriated states engaged in a quarrel over organising a picnic. But the spat soon turned ugly when the two groups attacked each other with bamboo sticks. The victim, who is a local, sustained an injury on his head and other parts of his body during the clash. He was later shifted to a hospital in Krishnanagar where he succumbed to his injuries.

After starting an inquiry, the Nadia district police have arrested two persons on the charges of fuelling the fight and beating up a person to death.  

In a separate incident the body of a person who used to sell lottery tickets was found in Hanskhali area of Nadia on Saturday. His face was disfigured.
