A youth was beaten up by some miscreants after he protested against consumption of alcohol inside his car. The incident triggered tension in the Bhaktinagar area of Siliguri on Wednesday night.

The victim, Gopal Saha on Wednesday night found that two local youth were consuming alcohol inside his car. After seeing this he raised a protest and wanted to know the reason why they were boozing inside his car.

This infuriated the youth so much that they came out and beat him up indiscriminately.

The local people later rescued the victim and took him to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

The accused had, however, fled the place immediately after the incident. The victim lodged a
complaint against the accused in the local police station on the basis of which the police started an investigation.

They are yet to arrest the two accused in this connection. The victim told the police that Swapan Biswas and Munna Dey had attacked him when he protested against the consumption of alcohol.

Police said that the accused beat up the victim with an iron rod as a result of which, Saha received severe injuries on various parts of his body. Police are conducting raids to nab the culprits.

The local people told the police that the victim, a resident of Bhaktinagar was a good natured person and he had no rivalry with anybody. The victim told the police that the accused broke the lock of his car and entered into his car. When he protested against the incident, they became abusive and attacked him with an iron rod.

The local people alleged that the accused were involved in various anti-social activities and hence nobody dared to raise a complaint against them. Some, however, alleged that Biswas and Dey belong to a political party.
