Youth attempts suicide after stabbing lover

A youth attempted to commit suicide after trying to kill a woman with whom he came in contact through a social networking site. The incident took place outside Baishakhi Abasan in Salt Lake on Saturday night. 

Both were admitted to Bidhannagar Hospital. Police said the youth Rajesh Mukherjee is a resident of Bhadreswar in Hooghly. He came in touch with the woman, who is a resident of Salt Lake, through a social networking site a few years ago. 

The youth befriended her and they continued sharing their views over the social networking site. Despite knowing that the woman was married, the youth forced her to engage in an ‘affair’ with him.

 The woman repeatedly tried to avoid the youth. But he always managed to contact her. He asked her to meet him but the woman turned down his request.

 A few days ago, the youth had somehow managed to get her mobile number and started calling her. He again started asking her to meet him.

 On Saturday, the youth turned up near the woman’s house in Salt Lake and contacted her over the phone. After speaking for around 10 to 15 minutes, he asked her to meet him again. 

She was shocked to know that the youth was waiting outside her house.

 Anticipating that it may lead to problem in her family, she agreed to meet him and went out. She met him outside Baishakhi Abasan.

The youth proposed her but the situation turned worse when the woman turned down his proposal. 

The youth took out a razor blade and attempted to kill the woman. 

She received injuries on her stomach. She jostled with him and cried for help as the youth tried to stab her repeatedly.     

Finding people approaching, the youth left the woman and attempted suicide by cutting his nerves. 

Local people took both of them to Bidhannagar Hospital. Doctors stated the woman’s condition to be stable but the youth was admitted in a critical condition. 

The youth was later shifted to NRS Medical College and Hospital. 

It may be mentioned that a national level volleyball player was stabbed to death by her jilted lover, who is also a volleyball player, on Friday at Barasat in North 24-Parganas.

According to the city based psychologists such incidents are taking place often as the people have become intolerant. 

In today’s society for various reasons some youths are not ready to compromise with the situation, instead they start suffering from inferiority complex as soon as they fail to achieve their target.
