Youth arrested in Tollygunge for posing as Kolkata Police inspector, raping woman

Police arrested a youth on charges of raping a woman after assuring her of marriage by posing himself as an inspector of the Kolkata Police.

The youth, Rakesh Roy Chowdhury, was arrested from Tollygunge by officers from Bidhannagar Women Police station on Monday.

The accused had even withdrawn money from the woman’s bank account after befooling her.

Police said that the victim had lodged a complaint with the police a few days ago against the youth 
and the youth was arrested on the basis of her complaint.

The woman, who is a resident of Lake Town area, claimed that she had joined the job of a security guard in the company Manisha Security and Placement Services run by the accused.

The youth, who is originally a resident of Baruipur in South 24 Parganas, got engaged into an affair with woman and assured her of marriage.

He had introduced himself as an inspector with the Kolkata Police and claimed that he was posted at the Detective Department of the city police.

He had befooled her and withdrawn a good amount of money from her bank account. Initially, the woman did not ask him to return the money considering that he would marry her.

However, the situation turned worse when the youth started distancing himself from the woman. For the past few days, he had stopped all communication with her and even refused to accept the fact 
that he knew her.

Finding no other way out, the woman lodged a complaint with the police. He was booked under several sections of the Indian Penal Code on charges of raping and cheating a woman.

The police have questioned some of the associates of the accused and some other employees of the security agency and had also verified with the Kolkata Police only to know that there is no such officer in the force.
