Youth arrested for attempt to rape deaf and mute girl

Police have arrested a youth on charges of attempting to rape a deaf and dumb girl. The incident had triggered tension at Jamalpur area of Burdwan on Sunday night after the incident came to light.

Police said that the accused Budhhadeb Pandit went to the house of the victim at Paratal village of Jamalpur area. As he was well acquainted with the family members, the victim’s mother went to do some work on Sunday afternoon. The accused told the victim’s mother that he would repair the door which was lying broken for some time.

When the victim’s mother was returning home on Sunday night she found that the victim was terribly shaken and rushing towards her. When the mother asked her daughter why she was under such a traumatic situation, the victim narrated how the accused youth, a resident of the same village, had tortured her.

As the local people came to know about the incident they raided the house of the accused, who had meanwhile fled from his house after the incident. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members of the victim, the police had started an investigation. After conducting a raid in the nearby area, the police arrested the accused on Sunday night. During the interrogation, the accused youth admitted to his crime.

The victim girl is yet to overcome the mental shock that she had felt when tortured physically. The accused hatched a plan to commit the crime as he thought that the victim could not raise the matter in public.

The victim’s mother had faith in the accused since he was well acquainted with the family for a long time and she had not imagined that he could commit such a crime with her daughter. Hence she had left the house for some work when the accused was in the house.
