Yet another suicide in Gurgaon

A 25-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping from M G Road metro station on Thursday morning. She was rushed to the nearby hospital where she was underwent treatment. Later in the evening, she died. This is the 11th case in eight days where people committed suicide in Gurgaon. And its the 8th case in Delhi and NCR since January, when a metro station has been chosen to commit the act.

The girl was identified as Priya Khandelwal, a HDFC employee. She got married in 2010 and, apparently, she was being pressurised by her in-laws, who had demanded for more dowry from her. The marriage had been arranged by the family. Her in-laws stay in Mathura whereas her parents are from Delhi.

'A case of harassment for dowry has been registered under section 498A of IPCA in Mathura Police station, but no action was taken by the police,' alleged Priya's family. They added that no arrest was made as yet. Meanwhile, Khandelwal was staying alone in a rented room for the last three months in Gurgaon.

Senior officer said, 'The girl jumped from M G Road Metro station at 12 am. No suicide note was found. When she fell on the ground, she was alive but badly injured. The platform was quite high. An auto drivers who witnessed the incident took her to a nearby private hospital, where she was treated.'

Later, Khandelwal was shifted to Medanta Hospital. At around 5.30 pm, she died in the hospital.

Khandelwal was apparently depressed because of her family situation and she had also filed for divorce. The case is pending in the Mathura court, he added.

'As per the parent's allegations, Gurgaon Police has filed a case of abetment to suicide under Section-306 of IPC. The case is against her husband and in-laws.

Investigation with her friends, family and in-laws are going on to find out the reason for her suicide,' said Maheshwar Dayal (DCP) East, Gurgaon.

Bhupendar Singh, ACP DLF City, said that they are looking into all plausible angles, including the possibility that someone pushed her.
