Yasin Malik accuses Hurriyat of swindling Kashmir victims’ money

Accusations and infighting have been part of the separatist narrative in Kashmir. Rarely,  have these revelations surfaced in public domain. On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik in a volte-face revealed a largely held perception in the Valley. Malik accused Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq of swindling money meant for Kashmir victims.

‘Hurriyat led by Mirwaiz claims to represent people and resistance. The bitter truth is that these people have got big houses, expensive vehicles and other benefits in the name of freedom struggle,’ revealed Malik in a statement.

This is for the first time a senior separatist has traded such huge allegations against their counterpart.

The development came a few days after a senior separatist Shabir Shah called off it's representative from the Hurriyat. The amalgam has been riddled with controversies and infighting over the past few years.

Malik went ahead a step further accusing Mirwaiz led Hurriyat of creating assets and shopping malls.

‘These people in the garb of resistance accumulated money and built shopping malls and got those inaugurated by mainstream politicians,’ he said.
