Wrong to remain contended in face of injustice: Sharmila

Urging the youth to fight against wrongs in society, Irom Chanu Sharmila said that it would be wrong to remain contended in face of injustice around us. She was speaking at a seminar on “Armed Forces Special Powers (AFSP) Act and the people’s movement” in Delhi School of Social Work organised by North-East Forum for International Solidarity on Friday.

“We have to stand and fight against injustice and wrong trends around us to make this world a better place and to make democratic principles a reality,” said the 44-year-old icon of resistance and struggle.

She further said that as a member of society it is necessary to realise the responsibility to fight against laws when it turns against the people. Youth cannot remain contended in such injustice is going on in the country, she added.

After breaking her 16-year-old fast in August, the activist had decided to join politics to “make positive changes”.
