The Third Implementation Support Mission of World Bank headed by Ben Eijbergen visited DFCCIL from 15 October to 22 October, 2012 and reviewed the progress of the first phase of World Bank funded Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor from Khurja to Bhaupur for which the loan agreement of $975 million was signed in October 2011.

The Mission reviewed the progress on financial management, institutional development, human resources, communications, governance aspects, etc. pertaining to the first phase and expressed complete satisfaction on the progress made by DFCCIL since the last Mission, which visited DFCCIL in May, 2012.

The Mission appreciated and complimented DFCCIL on its major accomplishment in the areas of land acquisition, social safeguards, environmental issues and the procurement process.

The World Bank Support Mission also identified areas requires further attention and discussed various issues related with adoption of new technology and their implementation. The civil contract for phase–I is likely to be awarded by end of this year.

The Mission also reviewed the preparatory works pertaining to the progress for appraisal of the second and the third phases of the World Bank funded portion of the Eastern Corridor, i.e., from Kanpur to Mughalsarai and from Khurja to Ludhiana respectively.
