Worker dies while dismantling makeshift pandal on Red Road

Goutam Naskar (40) a worker who was dismantling the makeshift pandal on the Red Road where the oath taking ceremony took place on Friday, died after falling from the stage.

Police said that the victim, a resident of South 24-Parganas was engaged by the decorator agency to dismantle the makeshift pandal. When he was working on the structure his legs slipped and he lost his balance. He fell on the ground and suffered severe injuries on his head. The local people found that he was bleeding from his head. He was rushed to the SSKM Hospital soon after the incident where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Police have, however, started an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim lost his balance and fell down. Other workers present at the spot told police that the accident might have occured as the victim was little careless. As his legs slipped on the makeshift structure he could not control his balance. Police said that Red Road will be thrown open for the traffic from Sunday.
