Woman withdraws rape accusation against Ggn Deputy Mayor

The woman who had filed a complaint against Parminder Kataria, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon of allegedly raping her, has now retracted from her allegations, a source revealed. The woman’s statement was registered in the presence of a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC on Tuesday.

Though Deepak Saharan, DCP (East), the Investigating Officer of the case, did not comment on this issue, he confirmed that investigations would continue. “Investigation is in progress and action would be taken in accordance with the merits of the evidence,” said Saharan. However, the statement given by the 36-year-old widow, taking back her allegations, was confirmed by a senior police officer.

Sources revealed that during the recording of the statement, the woman retracted from her previous allegations and stated she did not want any action to be taken. She had also mentioned in her previous statement that they visited Panchkula and Agra, where the deputy mayor had allegedly raped her. Kataria had also allegedly offered her a job in the MCG to win her confidence.

A case of rape was filed against Kataria under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) at the women police station in Sector 51 on Saturday.

The deputy mayor is the second leader from Gurgaon after MLA Umesh Agarwal accused of rape. Both are from the BJP. Members of the Youth Congress burned Kataria’s effigy on Wednesday in Gurgaon.
