Woman murdered by husband

Rakhi Ghosh, a 40-year-old Alipurduar resident was choked to death, after a confrontation with her husband on Thursday night. The accused husband has gone at large.

The seven-year-old son of the couple, who was the only eyewitness of the murder, described the whole incident to the police. The investigators are in search of the killer.

Local police believe that domestic violence might be the reason of this murder. Rakhi, a mother of three children, was involved in an altercation with her husband Subhankar. Suddenly, he pounced on her, choked her with a pillow.

Little Bappa, Rakhi’s son, was watching the incident from a close proximity. He was screaming, but that did not stop his father.

The cops took the details of the incident from the little boy and lodged case suo muto.

“The man might have gone to the neighbouring district. A police team has gone to arrest him,” said a senior police officer.

According to 7-year-old boy’s version to the police, his father wanted her mother to bring money from her home. He wanted some gold ornaments from her. But his mother was defiant.

“Subhankar stated beating his wife with a rod. She was crying with pain. He throttled her with a pillow and soon her inert body was lying on the bed. The man then decamped from the spot,” said the officer.
Ten years ago, Subhankar married Rakhi and they started a happy family life. But later, he started some illegal business in the area. He was arrested by the police earlier as well.

“Subhankar was a small shopkeeper, but later, turned into a seller of adulterated fuel or kata tel for auto or trekkers. He made money in this trade, but was arrested on the charge of selling adulterated fuel. But he got bail,” said a police officer.
