Woman mowed down after failed abduction


A special investigation team has been formed to probe into the incident. Police said that the incident took place when the victim, working at lozenge factory at Sugandha area under Polba police station, was returning home after work with five other girls.

A matador stopped their way and the helper of the vehicle tried to drag the girl into the vehicle.
While the girl was trying to save herself from the clutches of the accused she came under the wheels of another truck coming from the opposite direction.Her two friends who tried to free the victim also received minor injuries in the incident.

 The driver and the helper fled the spot immediately after the accident. The local people rushed the victim to Chunchura Imambara Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries later.Police said that the victim was the resident of Singhi Bagan area, Hooghly. Police are investigating whether the victim was acquainted with the accused as the police suspect that the accused might have been trying to abduct the girl.

They were also investigating whether she had any past rivalry with the accused. Police have managed to seize the murderer’s vehicle but they are yet to arrest the driver and the helper of the accused.

The members of the SIT have been conducting raids to nab the culprits who were absconding since the incident.
