Woman loses her hand as city buses brush against one another

Police said the woman Lutfa Bibi was travelling in the bus and she had kept her left hand outside the window. Two buses on Behrampore-Domkal route were racing with each other as drivers of both the vehicles were trying to reach a particular stoppage to get a good number of passengers.

In a bid to overtake, one of the bus accelerated the speed through there was no enough space on the road to pass. The bus had to brush pass the other one in which the woman was sitting. The woman lost her left hand when the bus brushed against the other. The bus had moved a few metres ahead with the woman’s hand.

Local people stopped both the buses hearing the woman’s cry for help. Everyone was shocked when they found that the woman’s hand was bleeding profusely. Some local people took the woman to hospital. She is a resident of Dudhsar village at Naoda. Other passengers had to leave the buses as a section of people had started pelting stones at the vehicles. However, the drivers of both the buses had managed to escape.

The local people had also damaged some local shops as those shops have encroached a portion of the road. As a result, the roads become narrower which led to such incidents. A large contingent of police was deployed to disperse the mob. The local residents demanded that the shops on the road have to be removed. According to doctors, the woman is in a critical condition. She was later shifted to Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital.

It may be mentioned that this is the second such incident that took place within a week. On May 12, a college goer Shraboni Nayak lost her right hand when a truck had brushed passed while she was peeping out of the window of the bus to speak over her cell phone at Seharbazar in Burdwan.
A youth, Imanul Islam, who was sitting just behind the girl, had also received fracture in his hand when he pulled her head inside the bus.
