Woman living with corpse of dead daughter for last 5 days

A woman has been living with the corpse of her 20-year-old daughter, who died around five days ago, in her flat at Netaji Nagar.

Police on Saturday recovered the decomposed body of Mampi Nath after local people complained of foul smell emanating from their flat.

Police from Netaji Nagar police station went to the spot and found the flat locked from outside. The flat is situated in the first floor of a three-storey building. Mampi’s mother Joly was loitering in the lobby outside their flat. She refused to give the keys of the flat to the policemen. She pushed the policemen when they tried to take away the keys. Police suspect that she is suffering from mental depression.

Finally, the police officers managed to get the keys of the flat. They found the decomposed body of Mampi in one of the rooms and sent the body for an autopsy. The victim’s mother was admitted to MR Bangur Hospital.

Police came to know after speaking to the local people that both the woman and her daughter hardly used to speak to their neighbours. They didn’t even use to come out of their house so much. The neighbours told the police that they had not seen Mampi for the past few days.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Mampi had suicidal tendency and had attempted suicide by setting herself on fire a few weeks ago. But the police are yet to ascertain exact reason behind her death.

Officers from the homicide section of the city police’s detective department visited the spot.

A police officer said that the condition of the body suggests that Mampi died at least five days ago. “It seems that her mother knew about her daughter’s death as she was staying in the same flat. But at present she was not in a condition to answer any questions.”
