Woman jumps to death on Metro tracks

A 25-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries when she allegedly jumped in front of a running train at the Yamuna Bank Metro Station on Sunday evening. The deceased has been identified as Anjali, police said.

According to the Metro police, the incident took place around 6:20 pm, when Anjali jumped before a running train, going towards Vaishali, at the Yamuna Bank Metro Station. The police recovered a mobile phone, a Metro smart card and some cash from her purse.

According to police sources, Anjali’s family was going from Mandi House to Vaishali when she de-boarded at the Yamuna Bank Metro Station and took the extreme step. Police said the victim was upset over talks  in her family to get her married off.

In the CCTV footage, recovered from CCTV cameras installed at the Metro station, Anjali was seen roaming around the platform for over 10 minutes before she jumped in front of the train. 

The police have not recovered a suicide note from the woman’s possession. A Metro official said train services were disrupted for over 20 minutes.

On November 9, a 30-year-old pregnant woman allegedly tried to end life by jumping from the Ashoka Park Metro Station. According to the police, neither a suicide note, nor documents or mobile phone were recovered from the woman.
