A 20-year-old woman jumped off from the second floor of a building to save herself from being gang-raped by her friends at Liluah in Howrah on Sunday night.

The victim was admitted to a hospital in Howrah with severe injuries. All three of her friends were arrested. Police said that the victim had an affair with a youth named Nantu Basu. The youth had invited the girl for dinner at his residence on Sunday night.

The girl reached Liluah at around 6 pm and contacted Nantu over phone, seeking direction to reach his house. Nantu told the girl to wait and reached at Kona More. He took her to a friend Bhola’s residence at Piarabagan near Kona in Howrah.

He told her that the dinner was organsied at Bhola’s house as there were some problems in his house. Bhola’s parents were not present at the house as they went to a relative’s residence to attend some programme.

The victim found another youth, Chotu there apart from Bhola. Nantu introduced Chotu to the victim as his childhood friend.

After an hour, Bhola offered soft drinks and some food to the girl. Thereafter, they started taking alcohol. Despite saying that she would leave if they intake alcohol, the youth forced the victim to remain seated and assured her that she would not face any trouble.

Believing them, the girl took the cold drink and food which were spiked.

She started feeling dizzy after a few minutes. The youth including Nantu, with whom she had an affair, came near her and molested her.  They tried to tie her up saying that she would get raped by all three of them. She restricted and somehow managed to run out to the verandah. The accused then approached her to bring her back inside the room.

Finding no other way to escape, she jumped off from the verandah and fell on a heap of sand after hitting a boundary wall.  Locals, who were sitting in a nearby tea stall, rushed to the spot after hearing the thud sound and found the woman lying unconscious.

They took her to the hospital where she was admitted. Doctors told them that she fell unconscious after receiving injuries on her head.

Locals caught the accused and handed them to the police. Investigating officers went to the spot and found valuables strewn all over the floor of the room where the trio had attempted to commit the crime.
