Woman heckled by youth for protesting against banned firecrackers

A day after the Ballygunge place incident in which a couple was abused by some local puja organisers for protesting against loud speakers, a similar incident occurred at Babur Bagan area of Amherst Street on Monday night. 

The victim, Chandrima Maji who came to her parental house at the area along with her one-year-old girl and her husband protested against some local people who were bursting banned fire crackers at midnight causing serious inconvenience to her daughter. 

In return, the local youth hurled abusive languages at her. When her husband protested against the incident, the accused threatened him with dire consequences. The victim alleged that at around 2.30 am some local youths were bursting fire crackers and despite of their repeated pleas, they did not stop. They hurled abusive languages at the victim and her family members.

The woman has lodged a complaint in the local police station. She alleged that the police did not take any action against the accused. They reached the spot and advised the two groups to settle the matter amicably, the woman said. 

She also said that the police should have taken action against the accused. She also alleged that the accused went on hurling abusive languages at them even on Tuesday morning. The accused also allegedly continued threatening them. Police have started a probe into the incident.

In a separate incident, tension broke out at Northen Avenue of Paikpara on Monday night. Some children along with their guardians were bursting light crackers in the house when some local drunk youth beat them up. 

After being informed, the police reached the spot and started an investigation. They are conducting raids to nab the culprits. They are investigating why the accused had attacked them without any provocation. 

In another incident, two persons were injured when a clash broke out between two groups backed by two local clubs in Chetla area. The incident had triggered tension in the area. Police said that the incident occurred over organising bhai phonta in the area. After starting an investigation, police have arrested one person in this connection so far. The injured were taken to SSKM Hospital.
