Woman hangs self after slitting son’s throat

A 28-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan after killing one and injuring another son. The woman allegedly slit the throat of her two-and-half-year-old son Srikant, while the 10-month-old son, Sanjay, was brutally injured after he reportedly fell, at South-west Delhi’s <g data-gr-id="25">Chhawla</g> area on Friday afternoon. Apparently, the woman was depressed over her inability to visit her native place for Raksha Bandhan, which led her to take this extreme step.

According to the police, the woman has been identified as Sushmita. She had been married to one Shashikant Bari in 2006. They lived in Qutab Vihar area in Goyla Dairy. They had come to live in Delhi three years ago. Her husband is a plumber. According to the officials, the woman wanted to go to her native place to celebrate Raksha Bandhan but her husband refused her due to financial constraints.

Shashikant left for his work in the morning. Around 3 pm, when he came home, he found the door locked from inside. On hearing the cries of his 10-month-old son Sanjay, he broke the window pane and unlocked the door.

He raised an alarm and first took the children to the landlord who in turn took them to Deen Dayal <g data-gr-id="26">Upadhayay</g> hospital. In the meantime, he brought down the body of his deceased wife while a neighbour made a PCR call.

Srikant succumbed to his injuries while Sanjay is said to be undergoing treatment at the hospital.
