Woman gang-raped, beheaded at Malda

A 27-year-old woman was beheaded after being gang-raped near Mothabari at Kaliachak in Malda. The victim’s beheaded body was found on the bank of river Bhagirathi on Monday morning.

Police said the victim used to reside alone in a hut in Birampore village. On Monday morning some local people saw the body on the river bank and informed the police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that she was being tormented by some people from a nearby village for the past few days. 

They came to the area in evening on Sunday and passed lewd comments at her. But they had to leave the place after local people protested.

Police suspect that the same people had kidnapped her last night and took her to a deserted place, where she was raped by more than one person.

As the accused raided her house in the dead of the night, there was no one present to save her. 

She cried for help but it was not audible to the villagers as her hut is situated far from the rest of houses.

They killed the woman when she threatened to lodge a complaint against them and dumped her body on the bank of river Bhagirathi.

Policemen from Kaliachak police station went to the spot this morning after being informed by the local people and sent the body for an autopsy.

Police searched the area and found some empty bottles of alcohol from a place near the river bank. 

Police suspect that the accused had consumed alcohol there before raiding the woman’s house in order to kidnap her.  

The police have also identified a place where the accused were suspected to have gang- her and later killed her. 

A police officer said that the accused had tried to wipe out the blood stains from the spot so that the police cannot identify the place.

A police officer said that it is expected that the accused will be arrested soon. 

The police are also going through the call record details of the victim’s cell phone. Police have also questioned some local people Sunday evening.
