Woman found dead in Sabzi Mandi house, toddler son rescued

A one-and-half-month-old boy was rescued from a house two days after his mother allegedly hung herself in North Delhi’s Subzi Mandi area.

The police said that the incident came to light on Friday. Deepa (23) was found hanging in her house, while the child was wailing on the floor, said a police official.

The police said Deepa’s sister had been calling her since Wednesday but did not get a response. She went to Deepa’s house on Friday. The door was locked from inside and a foul stench was emanating from the house, police said.

She informed the police, who broke open the door and found Deepa hanging. The child was found sitting on the floor and crying. He has been admitted to a hospital, the police said.

They said Deepa’s body had started decomposing and it appeared that she had ended her life around August 30, adding that was sent for postmortem.

According to the police, Deepa had been living separately from her husband, Mukul, for the past 3-4 months. She was married for a year but cracks started appearing in her marriage soon, the police said. Deepa had even filed a case of dowry harassment against her husband, police said.

According to Deepa’s family, she was in stress over her failed marriage. Police said since no suicide note was found, it is difficult to say what prompted her to take the extreme step.
