Woman found dead in hotel room in Dum Dum

Police on Monday morning found the body of a middle-aged woman inside a hotel room in North 24 Parganas’ Dum Dum area. Police have learnt that two persons – with whom the woman shared the hotel room on Sunday night – are absconding, along with the owner of the hotel.

Her body has been sent for post-mortem examination and investigators are waiting for the preliminary report to come in.

Police noticed that the woman had rented the room on her own name and paid the rent herself. Her name was also written in the hotel register.

“The victim’s name is Durga Bhattacharya. We recovered a bag from her room, but could not know the address of her residence,” said an investigating officer.

Investigating officers interrogated the hotel’s staff and security personnel on Monday morning.

“The hotel staff saw the woman to enter the room with those two men. It seemed that they were employees of the same organisation as the woman,” said the officer.

“We found another name, Anil, written in the register. However, we could not find the name of the third person in the register who accompanied Durga and Anil,” said the officer.

“She was likely strangled to death. The assailants probably used a pillow to choke,” the officer added.

There are more unanswered questions that the investigators are trying to find answers to. Investigators are also trying to confirm the identity of the victim.

“We need to confirm who the lady was, what her relationship was with those men and where did the men run away after the incident,” another officer said.

North 24 Parganas police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Officers of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) reached the spot for investigation on Monday afternoon.

CID officers took finger prints and other samples from the spot.

They also took CCTV footages from the hotel.
