Woman, father run over by train in W Midnapore

A 32-year-old woman and her father were killed after being run over by a train. The incident occurred near Pashkura railway station late Saturday night. The victims were identified as Runu Samanta (32) and Tarun Gatayet (55).

Police said that Gatayet, a resident of West Midnapore came to his daughter’s in-laws’ house at Pashkura to take his daughter and granddaughter. The accident took place when the victims were returning from a nearby market place. They were trying to cross the railway line when the long distance train was approaching. None of the victims could see the approaching train.

The Government Railway Police recovered the two bodies and sent them for the post-mortem examination. In another tragic incident, the body of a person was found lying on the railways track hours after he had been run over by a train at Ramrajatala station in Howrah. 

The incident triggered tension in the area after the local residents found that the body of an unidentified person was laying on the track but the police did not recover the body. The local people staged protest against the incident. The local people alleged that despite of being informed, the Government Railway Police did not recover the victim hours of the accident had taken place.
