Woman falls from shaft, claims did so to escape abductors; accused speak differently

A 21-year-old woman has alleged that she was kidnapped by two men from Gurugram and later was raped in a flat in South-west Delhi’s Hari Vihar near Dwarka on Wednesday night.

She also suffered injuries to her back and legs when she fell down from the building’s shaft while allegedly trying to escape from the other accused Himmat who was locked inside the flat with her by the co-accused, Sunil.

The flat is rented by Nitin, Sunil’s driver. Nitin was out of town when Himmat and Sunil allegedly took the girl there. The case came to light on Wednesday night when some residents woke up to the sound of the woman falling from the shaft.  “We received a PCR call at around 9.30 pm, wherein, locals had informed us that some thieves were trying to rob a residence through the shaft of the building. We sent in a team and found the injured women and Himmat, who had fallen from at least 15 feet and had suffered injuries,” said a senior police official.

The girl sustained severe back injuries and was taken to the DDU hospital from where she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital where her condition is stated to be stable, police said. However, on the other hand, the accused claimed she came with them willingly and that they didn’t kidnap her. They said Sunil had gone out to get some food while Himmat and the girl were drinking in the flat.

They claimed that Sunil and the woman were standing near the window when they lost balance and fell. Himmat was later arrested from the hospital on the statement of the woman and Sunil was later traced after Himmat was questioned. Himmat hails from Mahendragarh in Haryana and had come to Delhi around 15-20 days back to work with Sunil, whose cars were earlier plying for Uber, a police official said. The police have in the meantime, registered a case under Sections 355, 376(B), 328 and 34 of the IPC.
