Woman dies on Maa flyover after scooter loses control

A 24-year-old woman died in an accident on Maa flyover on Sunday. Monalisa Debnath, resident of Howrah Maidan area, fell from her scooter and her head banged on the side wall of the flyover. She died on the spot.

Her friend, who was riding pillion, received heavy injuries as well. The local people took both the women to a nearby private hospital. Monalisa was declared brought dead. Her friend, who is yet to be identified, is admitted in the hospital in a critical situation.

“Monalisa and her friend were going towards Science City when the accident took place. She suddenly lost control as the scooter skidded. The scooter turned on its side and the two girls fell on the road on the flyover,” a police officer said.

Police said, Monalisa’s head hit on the side wall. She died there. Her friend was unconscious, but she was alive. “The local resident with the help of traffic police took them to a hospital,” said the officer.

“There was slight traffic congestion after the incident. But police managed the situation quickly,” the officer also added.

In another incident, an errant motor cyclist rammed into an auto rickshaw at New Town, causing serious injuries to four passengers. “The injured passengers were taken to Bidhannagar Sub Divisional Hospital. We’ve arrested the accused biker. He was intoxicated during the incident,” said a police officer.

It should be recalled that a private car mowed down two persons at Salt Lake’s Sector V on Saturday morning. The speeding car was coming from New Town and hit two persons on the road, but could not escape. Local people caught the accused driver. He was beaten up and handed to the cops of Bidhannagar Electronics Complex Police station. “There were five incidents of road accident which took place at the Bidhannagar Commissionerate area from Friday to Sunday,” said the officer.
