Woman dies after bombs stored in her house explode

A woman was killed in her residence at Birbhum’s Kusumgaria after a crude bomb, which she had stored in her room, exploded on Sunday.

Police said that the body of Sharifa Bibi (50) was blown to pieces in her room after the strong explosion. At least 20 bombs collectively exploded, completely devastating her entire house.

Police have started an investigation to find out the people who had supplied the bombs to the deceased woman.

After primary investigation, police have learnt that the woman had been selling those bombs to local touts and anti-social elements.

However, it is still not clear as to who was her supplier. “It is clear that she only used to sell those crude bombs, but she was not the manufacturer,” said an investigating officer.

Meanwhile, a contingent of police along with bomb disposal squad reached the spot to investigate.

The intensity of the explosion was so heavy that two other houses nearby were also damaged and two women who were standing there were injured.

“We have formed a special team to investigate the matter. The woman was living alone at her house. Some mysterious persons some time came to her house to supply those bombs. There were several criminals who were customers of Sharifa Biwi. One of them was arrested recently. He divulged to us that the woman used to supply bombs and explosives to Jharkhand and Bihar as well,” the investigating officer said.

There have been several incidents of recovery of arms and explosives in recent times. Police are trying to finds any links in those cases with this incident.
