Woman attacked with acid in Nadia

The incident occurred at Chakdah area of Nadia on Wednesday night. The accused has been identified as Swapan Sarkar. The accused, who stayed close to the house of the victim, knew that she lives in the house along with her three-year-old boy.

 The victim’s husband stays in Karnataka for work. Taking advantage of the incident that accused was trying to force the woman into an illicit relationship. As she turned down his proposal for repeated times, the accused was threatening her for a long time.

The accused Sarkar has been absconding since the incident had taken place. Swapan came to her house at around 11 pm on Wednesday. The door was locked from the inside. As she did not open the door, the accused started beating up the door. 

Fed up, she opened the door and the accused hurled acid on her face and fled the spot. After hearing her screams, the local people rushed to the spot and took the woman to Chakdah hospital and later shifted to Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital in Kalyani.
