Woman assaulted by in-laws, set ablaze
A 19-year-old woman was allegedly beaten and set on fire by her husband and in-laws before she saved herself by rushing to the bathroom at East Delhi’s Mandawali area on Thursday morning.
According to the police, Nidhi Gupta (19) was rescued from her house with physical injuries by the police and her parents. According to Nidhi’s brother, Vishal, her in-laws and husband thrashed her and threw her out from the house.
“Nidhi married Madhur Gupta eight months back. We gave them all that we could afford. However, post marriage, her in-laws started showing their true colours. They complained that she didn’t bring enough from her family. They started emotionally blackmailing her. One day they thrashed her and asked her to go away,” he said. Vishal also said: “We registered an FIR after which their family agreed to reconcile and take her back.” Vishal alleges that on Thursday morning, her in-law’s family which includes her husband, his parents and sister, ganged up against Nidhi, and thrashed her before pouring kerosene on Nidhi.
