With 5 cabinet posts, 8 MoS, Sena agrees to join govt in Maharashtra

Bowing before the BJP central leadership, Sena leaders have decided to do away with the earlier demand of Deputy Chief Minister’s post and went for a re-alliance after their split on September 25.

The differences between the two parties cropped up over seat sharing arrangements and both the parties have decided to go alone in the state poll.

Speaking to the Millennium Post over telephone, BJP spokesperson in Maharashtra, Madhav Bhandari said, “It is good to see that Shiv Sena has finally decided to go for the betterment of the Maharashtra.” He, however, refused to divulge more in the arrangement made between both the parties.

Sources said, the swearing-in ceremony to induct 13 Shiv Sena ministers in the Devendra Fadnavis cabinet could be held either on Wednesday or Thursday. For the last one month Fadnavis was making serious efforts to go for a patch up with the Shiv Sena and succeeded in convincing the latter to be with the government.

It was learnt that BJP is ready to offer the Sena the Public Works Department, Irrigation or Energy portfolios etc.

Earlier, on Monday, Fadnavis had said after a meeting between senior leaders of the two parties in Mumbai, ‘We are moving in the right direction. We can say that 70-80 per cent talks have been completed where both the parties agree. Some things are left, which we are still discussing.’

The BJP had emerged as the single largest party in the 288-member Maharashtra assembly with 122 seats, but one of its MLAs Govind Rathod died, reducing the figure to 121. The Shiv Sena manages to secure 63 seats and stood second in the race. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which emerged victorious in 41 seats, has offered the BJP ‘external support’ to form government in the state.
