Will you marry me? No!

Will you marry me? No!
My daughter is 28 and doing her own business. She is not willing to get married. How can I convince her?
Mrs. Poonam Agarwala, Kolkata
If she’s not willing, please don’t force her. In today’s time, a woman is no less than a man. She must be avoiding your request because she has her own plans related to her career or anything. Let her mentally prepare herself in order to get into the wedlock. Her age is not a factor and she ideally should marry when she knows she is completely ready. Pressure is the last reason for which a decision as important or sensitive like marriage should be executed!

I come from a lower middle class background. My in-laws are rich and we live in a joint family. They always insult me for my family’s financial status. How can I stop this?

It is very difficult to change people or their mentality. I suggest, do speak your mind out to your husband and seek his support. He should try to speak to them and explain your feelings. If it doesn’t improve,  request your husband and demand to settle in a separate set up. Don’t let these external hazards cause any disturbance in your married life. Handle with care and I’m sure all will be fine. Do not lose hope and try your best to ignore such insensible souls. Good luck!
I’m 36 years old and the only daughter of my parents. My father expired 8 years back and my mom is dependent on me. I don’t know how to initiate my own marriage! Nobody seems interested about that.
Devi Kumari, Haryana
In your situation, do not hesitate to initiate the process of marriage.  If there’s no prospective groom, register for online matrimonial sites or newspaper ads. Keep in mind that the man you choose should definitely be someone who will understand and help you take care of your mother. This might be a bit depressing and demanding, but you have to help yourself and look out for your ideal partner. All the best!

I am a 24 year old girl. I have been in a relationship from 1 year and my parents do not like this guy. I want to break up as we are not compatible. He doesn’t seem to understand and we land up in ugly fights. Please suggest me a way to break up.

The whole point in a relationship is to have reciprocal feeling. If either of them is lost then relationship gets weak and eventually dies. You will have to make him understand with your best ability. Continuing this relationship will only hurt both of you and will spread to your family members as well. Talk and get it resolved. I am confident that you will be able to take care. If this gets difficult and nasty, involve your family and seek their help to sort this. Be confident of your decision and execute it. Best wishes.
