Widow attacked for spurning brother-in-law’s indecent overtures

A widow from Old Malda area has been fighting for life after her brother-in-law had slashed her with a sharp weapon. The victim had refused the indecent proposal of her brother-in-law and hence had to face brutal attack.

It was learnt that victim’s husband died two years ago and since that time the accused has been trying to enter into an illicit relationship with the victim. He was trying to force her into a relationship. 

As she denied his proposal, the accused youth, Shyamchand Mondal, used to pass lewd comments on the woman as she was staying in a separate house. He also used to threaten the victim with dire consequences if she revealed it to someone. As a result, the woman could not reveal that her brother-in-law had been giving her indecent proposal.

On Tuesday night the accused forcibly entered into the house of the victim and tried to molest her. The woman asked him to leave the house which he refused to do. To save herself from his clutches, the victim shouted for help. 

The accused suddenly picked a sharp weapon from the house and attacked her. The woman received severe injuries on various parts of her body. After hearing the scream of the woman, the local people rushed to the spot and took her to Malda Medical College and Hospital. The accused, however, managed to flee before the local residents reached the spot.

Doctors in the hospital said that the victim had received injuries on her head and some other parts. She has been kept under observation. Her condition is stated to be serious. A complaint has been registered against the accused at Malda police station on the basis of which an investigation has been initiated. Police are conducting raids at various places to nab the culprit who has been absconding since the incident.
