Calling the bicycle a symbol of socialism Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that this bicycle has helped the Samajwadi Party reach the nook and cornor of the state and kindled hope among the people that our party could bring Uttar Pradesh back to the path of progress.
‘We are in government today because of the bicycle. Only this is the mode of transport that is labour intensive. This is socialism too. Work hard for your rights and bicycle also gives the same message,’ the CM said and added that bicycle has a very important role in the lives of most of the people in the country.
 Advocating use of bicycle Akhilesh said it is the cheapest mode of transport besides it is eco-friendly. ‘Moreover, it helps people to keep fit as doctors now advice cycling as exercise,’ he said.
‘In many developed countries cycle is a preferred mode of transport. People use the cycle for short distance travel. In many universities use of cycle is mandatory on the campus. Let’s make cycle a part of our life too and avoid using cars or other vehicles for short distance travel,’ the CM said.
 Flagging off 'Cycle on Race' here on Sunday at La Martiniere ground, the UP CM said the election symbol of his party is also bicycle which helped the party to enter the heart of the people.
 ‘I have also preferred bicycle during election campaign. I even completed several yatras covering more than 2000 kms on bicycle while campaign for the party in the last assembly polls,’ he claimed.
