Why is Dinesh Yadav still free?

Questions are being raised on why the Delhi Police is overlooking the role of Dinesh Yadav, owner of the travel agency that employed Ram Singh, the main accused in the Vasant Vihar gang rape. Police have so far arrested six people involved in the gang-rape – Ram Singh, 33, Mukesh Singh, 24, driver Pawan Gupta, 18, fruit seller, Vinay Sharma, 20, gym instructor, Akshay Thakur, 28, helper and the juvenile who provoked all the five persons to commit the heinous crime.

All accused have been booked under the sections 376 (2) (g) (Gang Rape), 365 (Kidnapping), 377 (unnatural offences), 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), 394 (hurting in committing robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Panel Code. However, Yadav was allowed to go scot free after the initial interrogation. ‘Yadav can be booked for negligence, endangering life and liberty of a citizen, public nuisance under the IPC in addition to the violations under Motor Vehicle Act,’ said Manish Kumar, Supreme Court counsel.

Rajan Bhagat, spokesperson of Delhi police said, ‘He might be booked under appropriate sections but those charges will be revealed after the chargesheet is filed. It will be too early to say anything before the chargesheet.’ Yadav and his brother Mukesh, run a travel agency in Noida. Yadav, a resident of Sarfabad village, Sector 71, Noida, told the police that Ram Singh and Mukesh were his employees and he had received several complaints regarding their rash driving. But after warning them, he permitted them to drive the bus.
